We welcome you to discover a carefully selected range of modern furniture, ceramics and home accessories. Many of the pieces in our collection are being shown in the United States for the first time. In addition to contemporary design, Chinese folk antiques from Mongolia, Tibet and China’s southwestern provinces are also offered. Our pieces are different from the ordinary, but functional for daily living. We believe tradition and modernity complement one another and that good design and aesthetics are timeless.
Mandarina is a partnership of Jaia Chen and her husband, Steven Frost. Jaia Chen is a contemporary artist and former Ringling School of Arts and Design professor, with a strong passion for design and fashion. Born in China and educated in America, Jaia has a unique appreciation for the cultural richness of east and west and how bringing elements of both together can create something new and exciting. Steven Frost has spent many years studying, traveling and working in China. Fluent in Mandarin and with a background in Chinese history and culture, he is actively involved with the art and design community in China. He has also avidly researched China’s folk art traditions and field collected in the isolated minority regions of China’s mountainous southwestern provinces. Jaia and Steven have recently relocated to the United States from a long- term residency in China. They want to introduce the cultural and creative dimension of China‘s vibrant development to a western audience.
